David is from Tanzania, a country in East Africa, with a population that exceeds forty-two million people and where life expectancy (as of 2008) was 53 years old. While Tanzania is a popular tourist destination for Western travellers, life beyond the safari trips is a struggle. The official capital of Tanzania is Dodoma, although Dar es Salaam served as the previous capital. David’s family are originally from the smaller nation of Burundi, but they left to seek a better life after civil war took hold of the country. David and his family lived in a refugee camp in Tanzania, before arriving in Australia at the end of 2008. Swahili, Kirundi and English are the three main languages David speaks.
David is currently in Year 6 in a Dandenong primary school. He has a passion for sport, and is an exceptional long distance runner. There is never a dull moment around his family and through Dream For Me excursions and tutoring we have found David to be a humorous, lively boy who deserves the best in life. David’s older brother John has become more involved as the year has progressed, and he always has his close friend Khalil close by. We are happy our relationship with David has led us to other wonderful young people in the City of Greater Dandenong.
